I developed this blog-site with the purpose of supporting my interest in the OOo programme, so that I could retain editorial freedom over the content that I make public here. However, this being said, I have also taken the opportunity to add some other papers and comments that this audience might also find interesting.
My background includes 30+ years in IT initially as a modeller and software developer, but I've slowly meandered through design, architecture, chief engineer roles to technical manangement, with the bulk of my post graduate career working with EDS. My current role is that of Chief Technology Officer for Integration Engineering, EMEA, and I am one of the top engineers in EDS. However, this site isn’t about my day job — it’s about my passionate interest in IT, and because of this I am one of the few 50 odd year-olds that can still talk on equal terms with 20 odd year-old developers and engineers. For those sad enough to be interested I'll publish some example papers that I have done as evening projects to evangelise best practice in EDS that have an industry wide application.

This site is hosted on a shared Webfusion
service. I have found this to a reliable service which provides a rich functionality
for a very competitve price. I can recommend it absolutely from my personal experience
in terms of functionality and SLAs against price. My only mild caveat is that it can
only achieve such price levels by adopting a true Zero Admin
approach, and this extends to the on-line support system. So if you are a novice you will need to other open forums and sources for your support. - With the Webfusion package I get suite of standard open tools that I use on this blog subdomain including good old LAMP – Red Hat Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP. (For completeness, I also host my wife's website as another subdomain and on this I use SunONE ASP product for historic reason's.
- Finally my blog engine is a customised version of the eggblog engine. The other components are pretty much standard, but as eggblog may not be known to you, I am maintaining an article chronicling my eggBlog Adventures here.
